Def Leppard, Hysteria (1987)

My dad had a friend everyone called "Roho" (his real name is Craig). Roho is still in Murray, God bless him, and I hope he's doing okay. My first exposure to Def Leppard was this. When I was just a boy, I was going to ride in Roho's truck with Roho and my father. I remember getting in through the passenger-side door and seeing a bunch of cassettes. I picked one up and it said "Def Leppard" on it. I can't remember what the cover looked like or which album it was but I immediately thought, This music must be evil. I haven't changed my mind.

J/k (that's short for "just kidding"). Just seems like lukewarm hard rock/metal to me. I can live without this.

    1. In retrospect, I do think I was a little harsh. "Pour Some Sugar on Me" (appearing on this album) is one of those incredibly fun bar songs. In that sense, one of the greats. We used to cover it, too, remember? And the fact that the drummer can play with one arm is a major feat. While we all had the band, I'd occasionally recall this fact, look at over at B. drumming, and my eyes would automatically narrow like a grumpy, squinting cat. Still, all this said, I'm not crazy about this overall sound. I'd rather listen to Amy Winehouse.
