Motorhead, Ace of Spades (1980)

This album is so cool and stupid. Like I've been doing recently, I randomized my listening selection for this morning and turned up Motorhead's 1980 Ace of Spades, listed number 408 on Rolling Stones' 2020 top 500 albums list. Ace of Spades is speed metal with a dirty sound. If you could transform an auto body shop into music, this would be it.

Right off the bat, here are a couple of plusses in favor of the band. The lead singer is all the bassist. Love it. And get this: his name is Lemmy.

I'm sure you're more familiar with Motorhead since you're a lot more musically literate than I am. What I guess I've been most surprised at with this album is how many songs I've heard play in film or that I've just heard in here and there in public, and I never knew they were from Motorhead. "Live to Win," for instance, I'm sure I've heard in some movie or other. I don't know if I'd heard "(We Are) The Roadcrew" but what an awesome tribute to the road life of a rock star.

There are twelve tracks on this bad boy, but the songs are so short, the runtime for the whole LP doesn't even crack 37 minutes. I think that's an advantage, especially for how fast the band's sound is. I'm going to put this on my nominee list for my 100 desert albums list.
