The Eagles, The Eagles (1972)

I'm sure you've heard that The Eagles hate one another so much that, for the longest time, when they do shows, they take individual private jets. This is surprising given their easygoing music, no?

Check out their self-titled album. It's funny and filled with obvious innuendo. You're already familiar with "Take It Easy." The opening lines are "Driving down the road, trying to loosen my load, I've got seven women on my mind." The second track, "Chug All Night," is about what? Guess. The chorus: "You're so much woman, I believe we can chug all night."

But it's not all songs about how these then-young men wanted to be hound-dogs. This chugging song is followed by "Most of Us Are Sad." It almost sounds like a solo song you'd hear someone perform in church.

Knee-jerkily, I don't want to like The Eagles, but I do in spite of myself. They're a staple of American rock music, an institution, deservedly so.

    1. The Big Lebowski, man. Definitely a movie you need to add to the watchlist with the wife. One of the greatest .
