The Slits, Cut (1979)

I respect what they're trying to do more than I like what they're doing. The Slits is raw ska-punk, where it's clear the musicians are talented and the vocalist is a good singer but they're so wedded to wanting to create this ska-punk sound that it mostly sounds like crap.

One standout bit about this album is that it really is surprising this was made in '79. I have no doubt this sound presaged subsequent ska and punk, even if future generations who mixed the two forms leaned more on the ska than on the punk.

Thumbs down from old Billy boy.
