Buddy Holly and the Crickets, The "Chirping" Crickets (1957)

Can almost get behind this music but not quite. Think what's attractive about it is it's blues, but it's white-boy blues, and what I've discovered in going through my musical journey is I can only like that white-boy blues when it's mixed with honkytonk or bar rock. Talking here about some Zeppelin and most Stones.

Overall, Buddy and the Crickets have a good sound, but this is cheesy and they're doing what sound like musical standards. Not going to bother to look it up, but one of the songs on here is "That'll Be the Day," which is a good song, but I'm pretty sure that's one of those blues songs that gets passed around. Wouldn't be surprised then if the Crickets didn't write it. Probably didn't write most of the music here. Probably the studio guys did. Speaking from ignorance, of course.

Thumbs down on these guys. Buddy, rest in peace.
