Ornette Coleman, The Shape of Jazz to Come (1959)

Now this is some good jazz.

I confess to being ignorant about Ornette Coleman before this album but what a sax player.

This is what you'd call experimental jazz or free jazz, so be forewarned about what you're getting in to. And yet for me, I'd still tick this album as one of the potential greats and look forward to listening to it again.

The whole album's got six very long, freewheeling tracks, where about the only thing that was constant was the bassline. Not that that was a bad thing at all.

Apparently old Coleman, who passed away in 2015, God bless him, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame the year of his death. Hope he's keeping the angels entertained.
